Weak Opening Lines
Your first line doesn't stop the scroll, and the good stuff is buried.
Diagnosis
What it is
On Threads, your first line is the whole audition. People see it, then decide in a blink whether to read more.
A lot of us warm up before we get to the point. "So I was thinking the other day..." By the time the real idea shows up, the reader's gone.
Your ideas are probably good. They're just hiding. This condition is about moving the best part to the front.
Common symptoms
- Your posts start with "So," "I," or a long setup.
- Views are decent but replies are near zero.
- Your best point usually shows up at the end.
- You rarely rewrite the first line.
Why it happens
We were taught to write like a letter: greeting, background, then the point. Feeds work backwards. Lead with the point, and the background becomes the reward for reading on.
30-second self-test
Read only the first line of your last five posts. Would you stop for any of them if a stranger wrote it? Count the yeses.
