Blurry Front Door
Your profile doesn't tell a stranger who it's for, what they get, or why to follow.
What it is
Your profile is the front door. Someone likes a post, taps your name, and gets about three seconds to decide. If the door is blurry, they leave.
Most blurry profiles aren't bad. They're vague. A list of hobbies, a quote, a job title from 2011. Nice, but a stranger can't tell what's in it for them.
The good news: this is the quickest condition to treat. One afternoon of work, and every post you write after that works harder.
Common symptoms
- Your bio describes you, not who you help.
- People like posts but rarely follow.
- Your profile photo is old, dark, or a logo.
- There's no link, or the link goes somewhere generic.
Why it happens
We write bios about ourselves because that's what bios used to be for. On Threads, the bio is a sign on a shop window. It has to say what's sold inside — in plain words a stranger understands.
Show your profile to a friend for five seconds, then hide it. Ask: "Who is this for, and what would you get from following?" If they can't answer both, the door is blurry.
